Radon Gas
Residential Inspections | Termite Inspections | Commercial Inspections
If you are purchasing a new property, consider that certain areas are more prone to high levels of radon gas. Radon is a radiactive gas that has been found in homes all over the United States. It comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water and gets into the air you breathe. Radon typically moves up through the ground to the air avoce and into your home through cracks and other holes in the foundation.
High levels of radon gas have been linked to lung cancer and other forms of cancer. You cannot see, smell, or taste radon, but it still may be a problem in your home. Your licensed inspector will leave a radon canister in the lowest livable area (such as a basement, playroom, or family room). The canister will be exposed for a period of 2–4 days. Then, the canister will then be sent to a laboratory and analyzed. You will be notified if the levels of radon gas are above government standards.
Herman Andrade is a New Jersey licensed radon gas technician who works with RAdata, Inc., where the radon gas canister will be tested. You can contact RAdata at 1-800-447-2366. RAdata is located in Flanders, NJ.
